Principal Investigator

Professor Wendy Ayres-Bennett

Wendy Ayres-Bennett is Professor of French Philology and Linguistics, University of Cambridge, and is PI on the Promoting Language Policy research project, funded by the AHRC. She has published widely on the history of French and the history of linguistic thought. Her current research interests include language policy, standardisation, codification and ideologies. Between 2016 and 2021, she was Principal Investigator on the multi-disciplinary, multi-institution research project, Multilingualism: Empowering Individuals, Transforming Societies, funded by the AHRC under its Open World Research Initiative (www.meits.org). The project worked closely with policymakers and practitioners to promote the value of languages for key issues of our time and the benefits of language learning for individuals and societies.

Research Project Manager

Dr Emma Humphries

Emma Humphries is the Research Project Manager of the AHRC-funded Promoting Language Policy project. She completed her PhD in French Sociolinguistics at the University of Nottingham in January 2021. Her research interests include language attitudes and ideologies, language policy and computer-mediated communication.
